The location is Lake Shawnee Shelter House 1 (3400 SE Leisure Ln). It is next to Shelter House 2.
When the pediatric oncologist walked in, we knew she had news we weren’t prepared to hear.
Our son, Indy, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Wilms tumor at three months. We felt we should do our part to raise money for childhood cancer research and families affected by childhood cancer. This is why we created the Indy Races.
According to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, only 4% of the billions of dollars spent annually on cancer research and treatments are directed toward childhood cancer. This shows a significant disparity in funding for treating childhood cancer.
Our event will be in-person this year, with a virtual option. The Indy Races will occur at Lake Shawnee on September 21, 2024 (Childhood Cancer Awareness Month).
Every dollar raised will support a local organization.
There will be a 1-mile, 5K, 10K, or race around the lake (6.8 miles) option.
You can walk, run, or jog your selected distance.
If you do the virtual option, you can walk, run, jog, bike, or swim. These options can be done anywhere – inside, outside, at the gym, or even on a treadmill!
